ImageDesert Esperanza Scattered Sites includes the acquisition and rehabilitation of four single family homes to provide permanent housing, with supportive services, for 16 seriously mentally ill adults in recovery from substance abuse. One of the four homes will be made ADA accessible. The housing units will provide affordable housing for low-income adults  transitioning from 24 hour residential substance abuse treatment programs. This is a population in dire need of affordable, high-quality housing in which to maintain their sobriety and maintain the mental/emotional stability gained while in treatment. The project will also provide easy access to the programs, services and neighborhood amenities needed by this population.

ImageThese are single story homes and one unit will be handicap accessible. Each home will include all major appliances and be furnished by NAFI. Support services will be provided by NAFI. In addition NAFI will coordinate services as needed with other area organizations including community activities, transportation and special support groups. Laundry equipment is included on site and grounds include useable backyards.

Properties are located near access to public transportation, grocery shopping and mini mall shops. The service-enriched housing incorporated by NAFI will provide short-term case management, counseling services, and access to resources needed to achieve personal goals. NAFI will coordinate an ongoing connection to programs and services available through NAFI and/or the community to help this at-risk population stabilize their lives and to prevent a return to substance abuse and/or an occurrence of homelessness. NAFI will help residents obtain counseling, crisis intervention, and other social services. Supportive services, such as mental health counseling, transportation, education and employment services will be provided on and off-site for all residents. NAFI will coordinate services through its general mental health and substance abuse recovery programs and with community organizations providing education, employment, mentoring, parenting, financial literacy and other services. Additional support will be provided to residents through the services of a Case Manager.Image
